Buying tips

  • 01

.223 Wylde chambers eat both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington safely. A pure 5.56 chamber will shoot .223 fine, but a .223-only chamber should NOT shoot 5.56 — read the barrel markings.

  • 02

Mid-length gas systems run softer and last longer than carbine-length. Worth the small premium on a 16" barrel build.

  • 03

Stack mags deep. Steel-cased ammo and 30-round mags are the cheapest insurance against ammo panics.

FAQ

Are AR-15s legal in West Virginia?

Yes. West Virginia has no assault-weapon ban, no magazine capacity limit, and no separate AR registration. Standard 4473 at purchase.

Can I build an AR from parts?

Yes — buying a stripped lower requires a 4473 (it's the serialized part), but uppers, barrels, and parts kits ship to your door with no FFL.
